Setup Notes for Vintage Phone
Case opens by unscrewing the brass screw(s) on side of the phone. there may be more than one screw, depending on the phone style, and the screws may be on either the left or right side
Inside the Box
Plastic bag which contains hook switch and dongles for ipad
ipad dongle (white) for connection of handset and power
phone dongle (silver) to connect phone to ipad dongle
Lamp to mount on top of phone for extra light
Hook switch bluetooth device and battery box
Wooden base for stand
Pipe for stand
Make sure you retrieve all items from the box.
The box can be used as a carry case for the Phone
Assemble stand and attach phone to stand
Install hook switch with the 4 screws on the phone. The hook switch is not installed to prevent damage during shipment
Open Phone
Flip tabs or remove wood bracket (two versions)
Remove insert faceplate. (set aside not needed when ipad is mounted)
install ipad mini in place of insert face plate
ipad dongle connects to ipad phone handset connects to phone dongle (silver) which is then plugged into ipad dongle.
Make sure hand set is fully plugged into dongle all the way
To power ipad with external battery or power bank, ipad dongle has usb c input for that. MAKE SURE the battery has a PD (power delivery) output. this is needed because when the ipad is connected to a dongle it requires extra power provided by a PD capable power bank or wall power source. (search PD power bank on amazon for options….)
In my prototypes I use lumabooth and configure the settings to record a video. the phone handset will be the microphone, and speaker for playback of audio in this situation. Other software may have to be configured differently
Mounting of the Phone
Pipe screws into sockets to mount phone to base
The pipe supplied will set the ipad camera to a good height from the floor when set in a typical table at an event
You can purchase different lengths of pipe from a hardware store to increase or decrease the height of the phone…
HOOK SWITCH
1) Hook Switch
2) Bluetooth Device
3) Battery Box
4) Phone handset to dongle adapter
5) Handset to ipad dongle with power input
Hook switch version Is suppled with switch activated hook switch, hook switch bluetooth device, and battery box for blue tooth device which connects to the switch with the small black cord with white connector
Battery box connects with the usb cord coming out of bluetooth device. Battery box has on off switch
When powered on, the computer will send Bluetooth to ipad. Look for and pair to FEATHER VOLUME or XIAO Vloume to connect/pair with
The Battery box (3) powers the bluetooth computer. The reason why this is used, rather than a power bank is that the computer draws very little power, and most typical power banks will shut off because they will think there is nothing connected. The 3 AA cells in the battery box will last a long time. There is an on/ off switch on the battery box. Some versions of the battery box will not have the usb cord attached, but rather a socket in the box to plug in the bluetooth computer usb
When connected properly, the sequence is started when a person raised the handset the hookswitch sends a signal to the computer which in turn send a command to the ipad for “volume up” This activates the record sequence in Lumabooth. The unit is tested prior to shipping and is confirmed to work.. If you have any questions contact me.
Don’t forget to turn off the power of the battery box after the event! 3 AA batteries power the unit.
LILY LAMP
Cord threads thru top opening, lamp base screws into brass fitting on the top of the phone. There is a knurled nut on the lamp base to allow you to adjust the position of the lamp and then tighten it in place (Don’t tighten too tight, you can strip the threads
Lamp in lilly light is 12 VOLTS DC Do not plug into 120 or 220 mains!!! Best way to power is with a 12vdc powerbank
!!! WARNING !!! The Lilly Lamp is FRAGILE GLASS Be careful when installing so you do not break it. Don’t Drop it! Replacements are available from amazon for $25-$60. You can also purchase different colors if you wish
The lilly lamp press fits into the lamp socket. After you insert it carefully press the metal “flowers” around the lamp shade to hold it in place more securely…
For the Power Bank, See this one from Amazon or similar. This unit has usb to power your ipad and 12 vdc to power the lamp and is what I use for my events…
PS The “Leave A Message” faux neon sign is one I use at my events and can be purchased from amazon for $30-$50 depending upon the style….
